Project Completion – Westlink delivers Fortescue EP1 Battery Electric Locomotive

Westlink has successfully completed the transport of the Fortescue EP1 Battery Electric Locomotive from Hazelmere, Perth to the Thomas Yard in Port Hedland, supporting the rollout of battery electric rail technology in the Pilbara.
The project involved the mobilisation of a 450-tonne LNI gantry to lift the locomotive for transport, followed by delivery to site and final placement onto the rail track.
Services provided by Westlink included:
Mobilisation of a 450-tonne LNI gantry
Lift-on and lift-off operations
Heavy haulage from Hazelmere to Port Hedland
Delivery and placement onto rail
The project was completed safely with no LTIs or delays and marked the delivery of the first battery electric locomotive in the Pilbara.
