Mining equipment and infrastructure we move

Westlink has supported conventional energy and various chemical projects around with global turnkey logistics solutions. We have extended these services to help the world progress with the energy transition.

Providing energy and chemicals to meet global demands has driven projects and operations into remote and supply isolated frontiers in challenging and harsh environments. There is project, operations and production risk associated with transportation of equipment, fabrication and assets to these developments and upgrades. These challenges are further compounded by the time critical demand for such equipment with minimal interruption to other project activities and operations.

Such logistical challenges demand expert knowledge, planning, engineering, project management and execution capabilities to deliver safely, on time and within budget. Specialist logistics knowledge is also emerging for the development of new sustainable sources of energy and new chemical products. From upstream to downstream, Westlink has served the energy and chemical industries for over three decades, delivering equipment, fabrications and assets to projects and operations for onshore, subsea and offshore developments, refineries, infrastructure and facilities.

Our customers in energy and chemicals include junior, mid-tier and major operators in addition to the contractors and equipment suppliers that support their operations portfolios. Our involvement in chemicals and energy includes logistics services for developing brownfield upgrades, building greenfield projects and sustaining operations.

Maximising transport envelopes for road, sea and air to maximise modularisation and preassembly to reduce onsite construction and commissioning costs and schedule. Such modular strategies for mining construction can also offer reduced onsite activity risk and controlled fabrication/construction environments or be driven by remote project site locations, aggressive project targets, site plot plan and laydown restrictions and local fabrication limitations.

Oversize and heavy modules require specialist logistics solutions which Westlink can define from early concept through to execution phases in a project. These solutions can involve heavy lifting and transport, customised lifting arrangements and methodologies, traffic management for oversized loads, grillage design, sequence deliveries and many other considerations which require detailed engineering, planning and coordination.

Communities and industries have become so reliant on reliable energy sources for everyday life and business. Hence, it is critical that these sources of power remain continuous and accessible. However, the infrastructure and facilities that harness these energy sources can be susceptible to outages, routine shutdowns and critical maintenance.

To minimise or eliminate disruption to power supplies in these events, parts and equipment require rapid logistics solutions that deliver them from factory or warehouse to site for installation or replacement. Such logistics can involve complex multimodal solutions across land, sea and air with daily, sometimes hourly, communication and updates. All managed by a proactive, well planned and problem solving approach to overcome any last minute challenges that surface from such high urgency movements.

Smart logistics solutions that bring mining projects online faster and cause no disruptions to current operations.

Pipe and tubulars require special handling to their integrity is not compromised to withstand high pressures such in drilling operations or avoid corrosion and cracking in the operation trunklines and petrochemical distribution. It is also important to reduce the handling and transport cost which can be significant due to volumes required in exploration campaigns, project development and sustaining operations.

Westlink has been handling pipe and tubulars for the energy industry for over thirty years, including specialist solutions for coated line pipe, OCTG and others. Our end to end supervision give you piece of mind that your pipe and tubulars will be delivered to field in the same new condition from factory.

As global governments and industries decarbonise their operations, there is a requirement for more sustainable and less carbon intensive energy sources to be developed and replace traditional fossil fuel ones. New technologies are emerging and with this, new equipment and infrastructure is being developed to harness these new sources of energy.

Westlink has been involved transportation solutions for pioneering new energy markets such as wind, geothermal, solar, nuclear and other low carbon energies and continues its support with emerging sources such as hydrogen, ammonia, battery storage and carbon capture. Each new energy source differs significantly from others and so do the logistics solutions we provide to build and sustain them.

As pioneering energy assets come to end of life, they must be decommissioned, removed and disposed of in a responsible way, maximising recycling and reuse where possible. Some of this aging infrastructure exists in challenging environments such as harsh offshore conditions or deepwater subsea. These assets can also be enormous in size and weight making the removal and transport of them difficult.

Our logistics services can provide bespoke solutions for decommissioning work. Whether it be interfacing with an offshore construction vessel to transport used assets by sea or receiving in port to transport to dismantling and scrapping facility, Westlink has the experience and know how to support responsible decommissioning with specialised logistics.
