Westlink was engaged to provide a multimodal logistics solution for structural steel sections, large bins and modules fabricated in Tianjin and Qingdao, China to be used in the construction of an iron ore screenhouse at Rio Tinto’s Cape Lambert operations in the Pilbara region of Australia.

Scope

  • SPMT and heavy haulage – fabrication yard to vessel hook at Tianjin and Qingdao 

  • Heavy Lift Vessel (HLV) – Tianjin and Qingdao to Port Hedland and Port Walcott 

  • Tug and barge – Port Walcott to Cape Lambert barge landing facility 

  • SPMT – barge landing to screenhouse project site at Rio Tinto Cape Lambert operations

Highlights

  • Zero LTIs 

  • 75,000 cubic metres (cbm) transported with heaviest lift 300 metric ton (mt) 

  • 3 x full charter consecutive shipments 

  • Maximum module envelope – 38 x 11.5 x 8 metres 

  • HLV and tug and barge set interfacing 

  • Zero tides missed for barge operations 

  • Two kilometres to site via SPMT roll-off from barge with zero disruption to mining operations
