PROJECT OVERVIEW

Westlink was engaged by a customer to provide a multimodal logistics solution for a 750 metric ton power cable basket fabricated and spooled in Nantong, China to be used in the construction of a new power cable from Kangaroo Island to Adelaide in South Australia.

SCOPE

  • Crane barge – lifting of empty cable basket onto self-propelled barge

  • Self-propelled barge – spooling of power cable into empty basket at ZTT Nantong

  • Self-propelled barge – transfer of full cable basket from ZTT Nantong to Long Wu Terminal, Shanghai

  • Heavy Lift Vessel (HLV) – lift and load full power cable basket from self-propelled barge

  • Heavy Lift Vessel (HLV) – Shanghai, China to Adelaide, Australia to meet construction vessel to discharge power cable basket and accessories

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Zero LTIs

  • Heavy lift of 750 metric ton

  • Spooling of fifteen (15) kilometres of power cable onto empty cable basket onto self-propelled barge

  • Vessel to vessel transfer – lift of full cable basket from self propelled barge to HLV

  • Vessel to vessel transfer – direct delivery of laden cable basket from HLV to construction vessel

  • On time delivery met tight construction window dictated by seasonal harsh weather conditions
