PROJECT OVERVIEW

Westlink was engaged to provide end-to-end logistics management for structural steel sections for the Onslow Iron Ore Project. The project involved the transportation of 15,000 cubic meters of structural steel from Tianjin, China, to Ashburton, Western Australia. The delivered steel was critical for the construction of the Port Storage Shed which was a critical part of the project for iron ore storage prior to export shiploading.

SCOPE

  • Pre-shipment quarantine inspection of structural steel in China

  • Multipurpose Vessel (MPP) - Tianjin, China, to Onslow, Western Australia

  • Oversized and Conventional Haulage from port to Onslow Iron project site

  • Construction coordination – coordination with site team to unload trailers for direct install or laydown

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Maximised preassembly and stackability of sections to reduce logistics costs and delivery schedule

  • Port selection to minimise distance to site and cost of transport

  • Specialised extendable trailers used for 40 m long structural steel pieces
